kill off 80% of the human population, problem solved

I work at a hippy food store (I fucking hate it there) and told a few folks about this article the other day. Most were just taken aback that I could fuck with their view like that. A person at their hippy safe-haven told them what they thought was wrong.
That said this isn't applicable in all situations and diets. The far end of food production they give is with meat because meat uses so much energy to produce. For a vegan diet it will mean a lot less, you could also subdue those numbers by giving up on corn ethanol (that stuff isn't good for anyone but corn farmers).
Also if you killed off 80% of the human population it wouldn't necessarily solve any problems. You'd have to be selective about it. Many Americans would be on that list as well as large swaths of Indians (from India) and Chinese.
It'd leave a world full of the Swiss, Germans and the Japanese. So you have a really well engineered house that was fully compartmentalized but did tentacle rape on you in your sleep while flashing images of Pikachu on the ceiling.

Anyone care to warm my globes? Heh heh
This is the best movie I've ever seen. It has a vampire and an explosion!
I've stopped watching the news...I can't stand all the constant fear-mongering anymore.

Actually, you guys are on to something here. The agricultural revolution is theorized as one reason why the earth hasn't dipped back into an Ice Age. A team of Dutch researchers has even demonstrated a tentative link between the Black Death and the onset of Europe's 'Little Ice Age' which began in the 14th century.
When the warming and cooling trends in Earth's history are compared, one would think that global warming is relatively benign compared to the alternative.
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

You know there are human settlements quite some distance off of our coast that have been underwater for a long long time. Those glaciers hold a ton of water, enough to sink some countries, possibly eliminate some states. It's not just that we have warmer winters.

who is to say that we are not in a retreating ice age, at many times in this planet's past there was no standing ice anywhere- who is to say what is the typical global climate of this planet if there is one. Besides, there is little reason that if the worst was to happen (which I seriously doubt) we could largely handle it- look at the Netherlands, they manage it.
Public opinion seems to be shifting here, as recently as a few months ago the prevailing majority was largely in the green environmental camp preaching all the wrongs of a carbon economy. Now it seems people have seen through it as just another ploy of a government with hidden motives, if I was to sum up British goverenance over the last decade that is how'd I do it. All of a sudden the govt have came out with the idea that garbage will only be collected fortnightly and that you will have a quota and will be charged more if you go over, that fuel duty is set to rise, that homes without double glazing and with old boilers and radiators will be taxed more, that airline taxes will be doubled (how about that 55% of our foodstuffs are foreign sourced?)- I don't know but it seems like Westminster at least is cashing in.

That's what is so great about these extra taxes. It screws over those with less because they can't afford new stuff.
