Governor - Phil Bredesen (D)

He's capable; nothing terribly scandalous about his administration. He got a pass simply for being the incumbent of a functional state government.

--------------------------
Senate - Bob Corker (R)

A highly respected mayor of Chattanooga, and a self-made man. That's more than can be said for Harold Ford Jr., a man who has never had a job outside politics, and a scion of the sleaziest political family in Tennessee. Harold should seriously consider changing his last name to Bentley or Mazda - something to ditance himself from that bunch of lowlifes.

--------------------------
No vote for the House

Why bother? I've never heard of any of these people, and the House of Representatives is only a couple of rings away from being a circus anyway. I was tempted to write in Snoopy, but didn't want to chance that a bunch of other smartasses would hop on the same idea. Last thing we need is to send another cartoon character to Washington. Bill Frist was bad enough.*

--------------------------
Straight NO for all the proposed amendments to the state and Metro constitutions, except for the one proposing an independent audit commitee for Nashville. I was especially pleased to vote no for the proposed amendment banning same-sex marriages. Not because I care about gay marriage, so much as I refuse to acknowlege the government's right to sanction marriage - a clear violation of the separation of church and state.

*Frist is a member of the Senate, but that's not my point.

All Libertarians, except for Secretary of State I voted Green because it was just D's and R's. Also for State house and state senate I wrote in "none of the above"...

Voted no on all proposals except #4 (Eminent domain)

What I was wondering, what is the legalities behind counting votes- do the stations and various factions have insiders within counting rooms literally looking over who is getting what as it happens?

Here it is done behind closed doors- you can forecast and exit poll to your heart's content but we have what is called a returns officer within each constituency, and until he stands up and declares after every single vote has been counted, no one- not even the candidates are allowed to though details of the voting

It depends on the state. Some states allow election monitors some require it some ban it from what I remember.

As for how I voted I voted for Ted Kulongoski who I told to his face I thought he was a grandstanding turd.... but he actually has done things I liked as well. Plus Ron Saxton the Republican candidate is a double-speaking douchebag. I was tempted to vote Libertarian but that guy wanted to impose a sales tax which I am against the idea of. If I wanted a sales tax I'd go live in California.

Otherwise I voted for myself in a lot of elections where only one or no person was running. Had I know no one was running I'd have put my name on the ballot officially, or tried to anyways.

I voted to not increase police funding (fuck those guys), to increas emergency response funding which are ambulance and fireman type folks (those guys are actually cool), to further fund libraries and to not add more money into some schools bloated coffers(they fucking woke me up at 7am a few times with marching band practice and want everyone to have a laptop, fuck them). I voted no on parental notification on abortions.

I also voted for other stuff, go me.

I know. My last job we weer supposed to charge a VAT to people who ordered from the UK but I turned that part off of the webstore. Somehow it seemed wrong to charge that for BBC productions of Shakespeare plays being exported to Kent.

I also had voted for a reduction in taxes and some measures that prevent my legislature from spending evry fucking dime in the budget.

+rep to you my good man,
I will get in touch with my local minister of parliament and nominate you for a knighthood- Sir Outsider OBE- Order of the British Empire, for services to British subjects.

But where did the 17.5% go? surely you couldn't pay tax directly to the British Treasury?

I don't know how we would deal with it and I didn't care to find out anyways. I figure the UK would have a hard time collecting from one of the more famous Shakespeare festivals in the US for unpaid taxes.

i voted for Webb
for Eric Cantor (my 7th Dist. Congressman and a R... but i met him once and i like his policies... and he is unsoiled. he also has a house near me)
against the marriage amendment (which passed anyways... stupid)
and then some stuff about conserving land for wetlands and other greenspace.

Schwarz for governor
Democrats for house and Senate
No on the $2.60 tax per pack of cigs
Yes on the bill that increased school funding
No on the minimum wage increase
No on parental notification for abortion

Don't remember all the other ones. Basically anything other than those that raised spending, I voted no on.

how much are they out there now?

They are usually $4.75 a pack. That proposal would have INCREASED the tax by $2.60. So, instead of paying 4.75, we'd be paying $7.35 a pack. It was beyond rediculous.

Still not sure whether or not it's going to pass. I'm quitting cigs anyway, so I don't care THAT much, but I still think it's bullshit...

Most of the Libertarians I voted for were turds, had they actually had a chance at winning I probably wouldn't had voted for 90% of them. The only one who looked respectable was Bill Hall for Attorney General...

And what the hell had no one running in it? Wait for a phone call maybe you won something. :fingersx:

Ted Kulongoski (D)- governor OR

David Wu (D) - Representative 1st Congressional district

I know it's like the hip thing to say you voted libertarian or Congressional but there just weren't strong showing for the independents in the major races in Oregon. It amazes me that Lieberman won as an independent in Conneticut though, I thought he was down and out for some of his views on spending and the war. You never can tell sometimes how this country will vote. Democrats kicked ass around the country though, so conservatives keep staying the course and assaulting your rivals personal character instead of basing what you do or will do on what has happened in reality. Now if only the Democrats could actually get together and form a central message or theme they might actually be able to do something.

I'm happy with these results. This is how politics really works, by making realistic compromises. It's good the government is divided again. The deadlock will be good for America.

Really our freedoms are protected more by the willingness of the people to assert their rights, to keep the government too weak to take them away from us, and a willingness to throw out the bastards once they get too powerful. What did V say, 'people should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of the people'?

I describe myself as a Libertarian, but more of a commonsense libertarian. I gladly voted for an even mix of Dems and Republicans because they seemed the most capable to do the job. I feel a long-winded tirade going nowhere coming on, so let's just leave it at this. It's a beautiful day in Tennessee - literally and figuratively.
