A friend of a friend of mine was involved in an attention-grabbing protest yesterday. This girl was one of a hundred people who stormed Nottingham East Midlands Airport and staged a sitting protest at the end of the main runway for five hours. Obviously it is disruptive but it would become very clear that there was no hidden agenda. These were greenpeace protesters who were sickened by the opening of this new major airport, and whilst I may not agree with their views- I respect their right to voice them. Today, she is still be detained, and her parents return home from work to find that their house had been raided- by Gloucestershire Police, without a warrant and without right to appeal- thanks to the Anti-Terrorism Act 2001. Incidently the girl is being held without right to representation and without the right to know what she is being charged with. Undoubtedly, she will now be followed and spied on for the rest of her life by the Secret Service Agency- MI5. As if I'd vote for them anyway, the ruling Labour Party has lost my support and my vote forever. This incident has only become to common a sight, and it hurts me truly to say it- but Britain is becoming more and more authoritarian. In the last year we have lost our right to Habeas Corpus, safety from extradition and double jeapordy.

The day that a peaceful protest is regarded as terrorism is the day when all our rights and freedoms fail, which are so intrinsic to the survival and the resilience of Western Society.

Things like that are why I've had such a hard lined stance against this "anti-terrorism" legislation in your country and especially in my own. Ultimately it isn't stopping terrorism and even if it does stop one attack, my opinion is that the ideals of freedom should not be able to bend so easily. It sickens me that the citizens in both of our countries and otherwise across the western world are letting this happen without much of anything being done.

You'll hear people say freedom isn't free when they try to justify soldiers dying. Really though, the only thing you have to do to be free is to be unrelentingly free. You have to use your freedoms, you have to value them, you have to value the freedom's of others. This following phrase was used when my country declared independence but I think anyone who gave a crap about freedom and liberty in general should agree with it.

For being so overwhelming stupid that she would put the lives of the airplane passengers at risk just to make a point about the environment or whatever the hell she was freaking out about this time... well... it takes a special kind of retard(A self centered, attention whoring retard).

So now that we've established that, I would fully support your government in doing anything within their means(legally) to make sure that granola munching chowderhead doesn't put anybody ELSE'S lives at risk. By 'legaly', I mean by serving warrants, declaring charges, presenting evidence, etc etc.

Honestly, I hope they throw the whole book at her. I just hope they have the good sense to do it out in public with full disclosure. I mean, how hard could it be to convict someone that stupid? Having to fall back onto the anti-terror laws to combat these mongoloids seems highly unneccessary...

I agree it was a stupid way to go by making a protest- and no lives were put at risk, it was a blockade- it wasn't as if they ran in front of a plane whilst it was taking off- they moved in before flights started in the morning, so the airport didn't officially open.

I would be surprised if she was charged and went to court- but for trespassing. Not for terrorism- seriously, with the way the anti-terrorism act is worded, any crime can constitute terrorism here and therefore trial by jury goes out the window. This was one of those bills that was rushed through Parliament with no one reading it, and now we are stuck with it, which violates every belief we supposedly hold dear.

Even though I am hugely critical of Brussels, it does have its uses- there is a team of British lawyers taking on the British Government at the EU Court of Human Rights over the legalities of anti-terror legislation, who will force Westminster to comply.

It's sickening because this heinous legislation is being pushed through under the guise of fighting terrorism. One cannot wage war against a concept, especially when no one wants to own up to the source of that conflict - a diseased faith straight from the Dark Ages. Religion has enjoyed a dispensation from reason for too long. When you look at the source of terror around the world, even in the UK, you will find the hideous face of Psychohammed and Zombie Jesus leering back at you. This is the true face of evil.

Thanks, GCD. You saved me a bit of typing. "Fuck her" was going to start my post, and "stupid bitch" was going to be in it as well, until I saw you had already pretty much said what I was going to post.

Though, I don't see this as some grave injustice as Brian is saying it is based on their laws relating to terrorists. She deserves whatever she gets IMO.

It is the fact that she is being denied all her legal rights: rights to representation, rights to be charged, rights to a free and open trial, rights to protect her (parents) property- all on the basis of anti-terrorism legislation.

When you say terrorists have no rights and you fight against defining who and what a terrorists is, you have no rights yourself because you are a terrorist as soon as someone wants to label you as one.

Trust the Government. You have nothing to lose.
