The resolution stated that:
-Israel halt its attacks in Gaza.
-Israel to release Palestinian government officials and lawmakers it took into custody after the soldier's abduction.
-Palestinian militants release the Israeli soldier abducted June 25 in a raid
-Palestinian militants stop launching rockets at Israel from Gaza.

voting results
10 countries voted for the resolution
4 countries abstained from voting
America vetos, end of story

I wonder why America would want to veto the resolution. From all appearances, this resolution is asking for a return to the status quo.
An interesting development to say the least...

Instability away from the US equals greater or a perceived greater stability in the US.

Ahhhhh, the 'fat guy standing next to a fatter guy' concept....

I don't think its so simple, but I could be wrong.

It isn't to change America's perception of stability. Most Americans are sadly too dumb too even be aware of the world outside their own state let alone country.

This is an economic war and if the dollar stops being the international currency it gets devalues even moreso than it already has been in the past 5 or so years. Perceived stability over here is actual stability of the US dollar.

That's putting it lightly, the US Federal Reserve is literally shitting itself that it will be superseded by the Euro, especially in world oil and gas markets, there will be hundreds of billions of dollars around the world which no one will want, and should that happen the US Dollar will not simply be devalued, it will collapse, overnight.

Except for that oil is sold in dollars. The more I think about it the more I think that that might be why the US has protected Israel as much as we have. Not for similarity in ideologies but because it keeps our dollar afloat and extends our line of credit very far. At least as long as there is trouble in the middle east that is.

I don't know about literally shitting itself but yes anyone with a bit of a grasp of economics could see that the dollar is in trouble. Mix that with a strong military and you get to what we have today I think. Supply and demand, if the region outputting oil is unstable so is the oil. Though the oil producing places don't have to be stable or not. It just needs to seem unstable.
