So I guess Materazzi is being accused of spouting of racial slurs. Should this disqualify him from playing or should you encourage a meritocracy and assemble a team to make him eat his words everytime?

I think that him getting beaten by a team of "terrorists" or what have you would be better than expelling him.

I couldn't care less what is said, you don't turn around and headbutt them- things are said in every single match in football, and it is not as if Zidane hasn't done it himself, he has been sent off seven times for stamping on people- in the 1998 World Cup he missed three games because of it.

Well he did get expelled from the match for headbutting the dude. He didn't come out totally unscathed or anything like that.

What should be done with Materazzi though?

no he didn't, you'd be surprised how sports journalists completely fabricate stuff.

It doesn't matter, physical contact is completely banned from football- if he so much of slapped or pushed him he would have been sent off, people get sent off for far, far less- and it is one of the most straightforward sending-offs you'll ever see.

nothing. Nothing can be proven, and after the referee has dealt with the situation nothing can be done about it, it is effectively case closed. And nothing should be done- if you suspend him for use of language then every player across the world will be continually banned. You simply cannot condone it

clearly you didnt read the article then because they interviewed him and he said he did something but would not elaborate. oh well.

No- in the football media things are completely fabricated like you'd never believe- on a Press Conference on returning to Rome he completely denied making any racist or derogatory comments.

He denied racial remarks as well as remarks about his mother in the article Soy posted....

Zidane was penalized by being kicked out of the game. Materazzi should be punished as well.

the problem is that you cannot prove what Materazzi said. it is his word vs Zindane's. we very clearly saw what Zindane did and he had to be punished for it.

Recieving the nastiest headbutt ever televised in front of 50% of the civilized world wasn't enough punishment?

I think Team Brian is the only sane one. There is so much shit talking going on in Soccer or any sport, it doesn't mean that you can turn around and hit someone for it.

His actions were not just.

OK then, ill answer your question..

No, you shouldn't do any of those. Zidane wasn't punished, how can you say he was. He got a trophy for being the best player or w.e, and is being praised for his actions.

How is this being punished again?

Again, Materazzi said, yes he did insult him, but didnt call him a Terrorist. Im sure you condone the french players action because that seems like your style. But, seeing how headbutting/hitting anyone just cause they called you a name would be assault.

Look into any competitive sport, you will find shit talking. And do you see them turning around and headbutting the guy, no.
All through sports, whether it be highschool, or college, you are taught sportsmanship..and headbutting someone in the chest isn't taught.

Soy and Outsider posting their conspiracy theory "links."

Shame on you for thinking the news media has any reason to tell the truth about a sporting event.

Shit, this might be the greatest cover-up attempt since Watergate.

How does Zidane's expulsion from the game come up when asked what to do about Materazzi?

Seriously, Zidane should have very little to do with this thread.
